The ASUS ROG Phone 5 Will Come With Up to 18GB RAM

A trend that is taking over the Android smartphone space is gaming phones. What started as a small niche has quickly expanded into an exciting segment of the smartphone market. Just like the PC world, gaming tends to push the hardware forward faster than just about anything else.

Recently, we saw the announcement of the Nubia Red Magic 6 phone with 18GB of RAM. ASUS isn't one to sit on the sidelines, and the company has just announced the ASUS ROG Phone 5, which is ASUS's own phone with an absurd 18GB RAM. If you're in the market for a phone with a ridiculous amount of power, this might be one to consider.

What Does the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Bring to the Table?

We learned about the phone through Hynix, a semi-conductor based out of Seoul, South Korea. The firm is responsible for the 18GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM module that comes in the ASUS ROG Phone 5. In a press release, Hynix said that it has started mass production of the chips and that the ASUS ROG Phone 5 will be the first phone to feature them.

Here's what the company said regarding the upcoming gaming phone:

SK hynix supplied its very first 18GB LPDDR5 products into the upcoming ASUS 'Republic of Gamers (ROG) 5' gaming smartphone, marking the start of full-scale volume production.

Officially, ASUS hasn't shown off the ROG Phone 5 in detail just yet, so we can only speculate about the other specs offered by the gaming phone. As it's using such a high-end RAM module, we'd expect the phone to feature high-end specs in other aspects as well. That means it should feature the Snapdragon 888 processor running the show.

We're also expecting ASUS to announce the phone with a high refresh rate display. Presumably, it'll feature 120Hz, but with phones like the Nubia Red Magic 6 pushing things forward with a 165Hz screen, perhaps ASUS will also opt for something even faster and smoother. We'd also expect that scree to feature a high resolution, but we'll have to wait until the official announcement to learn more.

Other hardware highlights that we expect to see include a back design with dot-matrix technology built-in and the shoulder trigger buttons that many fans of the previous ROG phones loved.

A recent leak says that the phone will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is always a welcomed addition for those who prefer traditional wired headphones.

As far as the battery is concerned, we're assuming it'll come with a fairly large powerhouse, and we've heard that it may feature 65W fast wired charging.

When Will The ASUS ROG Phone 5 Go Official?

While ASUS hasn't officially unveiled the phone, we know that company plans to announce the phone on March 10, so we'll only need to wait a little while before we learn all of the details about the phone.

Speculating on the specs is fun, but finding out the actual details, price, and release date is even more exciting.
