Microsoft is rolling out a new update for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S that will allow you to suspend your game to increase download speeds. The update is being rolled out to members of the Xbox Insiders program first, with a wider rollout on the horizon.
How to Suspend Xbox Games to Increase Download Speeds
The Xbox One and Series X/S tend to throttle game download speeds in the background when a game is running to ensure that the multiplayer gaming experience is not affected in any way. While this makes sense, it could end up frustrating gamers eagerly awaiting a game download to finish in the background.
To speed up game downloads, you would have to quit any active game leading to a frustrating user experience. Microsoft is fixing this with the latest update for its gaming consoles.
Once the update is installed, you can suspend the game you are playing on your Xbox One or Series X/S, and any downloads in the background will automatically happen at full speed. To suspend any game, use the Suspend my game option in the Xbox download queue screen.

It is unclear how this feature will work with Xbox Series X/S games that do not support the console's Quick Resume feature. It is also unclear how games that require a constant internet connection to work will behave when suspended.
The update also adds new banners in your game library to quickly let you see new games added to the Xbox Game Pass subscription and those leaving it.
Join the Xbox Insider Program to Get This Feature Early
If you cannot wait for the public rollout of this update for your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, you'll need to join the Xbox Insider Program to get your hands on it right away. There are different preview rings, and you can register for one depending on your Xbox Insider XP score and program tenure.
