Android 11-Based LineageOS 18.1 Released for Over 60 Devices

The team behind the popular Android custom ROM LineageOS has announced the release of LingeageOS 18.1 based on Android 11. This is a major new release that's rebased on the Android 11 December Security patch.

Apart from a new base, the release also brings some new features, updated system apps, and other enhancements.

This is the first stable release of LineageOS 18.1 that's based on Android 11. Since the latest release of the custom ROM is based on Android 11, you get all the new goodies that the OS brings to the table, like one-time permissions, new emoji, a new notification panel, and more.

New and Enhanced System Apps

As a part of the update, the LineageOS team has updated many of the system apps. The Recorder app has received a major overhaul with a new user interface so you can easily manage and share your voice notes. You can also change the quality of the voice notes to save on space.

The defunct AOSP calendar app has been replaced with the open-source Etar calendar app with some enhancements from the LineageOS team thrown in. The bundled music app, Eleven, has also been updated with a new UI and plays well with all the media player-related improvements that Google has made in Android 11.

A new app called SeedVault is now bundled with the ROM for app and data backup purposes. This app will let you backup your phone's data without having to rely on Google services. You can even backup your device data to an external USB drive if you wish to.

Dark mode support has been added to all LineageOS apps. The LineageOS recovery has also been updated with a colorful UI that's easier to use. The volume panel has also been updated with an expandable UI that allows you to control the volume of different streams individually.
