Content from participating publishers will be featured in dedicated sections on Google News and Discover. The News Showcase section will initially surface Hindi and English content until support for other local languages gets implemented.

Some of the participating publishers include the likes of ABP Live, The Telegraph India, India TV, Deccan Herald, ANI, The Hindu Group, and others, Google wrote on The Keyword blog.

As part of the initiative, the company will also train 50,000 local journalists and journalism students over the next three years. It will also hold training sessions to help more than 800 Indian news organizations grow their digital ad revenue.

What Is Google News Showcase?

Announced on June 25, 2020, News Showcase is Google's licensing program to support the news industry. Google describes Showcase as helping "participating publishers share their expertise and editorial voice through an enhanced storytelling experience."

The program pays publishers for high-quality content displayed in Showcase, a special news experience made up of cards that can be customized to tell stories in different ways.

A card may be as sparse as key bullets or as rich as a collection of related articles with video/audio. Showcases are also available in Google Search and Android's Discover feature.

At launch, Google said it would spend to the tune of $1 billion to help publishers participating in the program. At the time of writing, the service enjoyed support from over 700 publishers.

Google News Showcases is currently available in the US, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, and a few other countries.
