MWC 2021 kicked off in Barcelona this week, and Lenovo is one of the first companies to announce new products at the event. In its announcement, Lenovo introduced its new Smart Clock 2 bedside smart display.
Lenovo Launches a Second Smart Clock
Freshly announced on the first day of MWC 2021, the new Smart Clock 2 comes as a refresh to the original Smart Clock which was launched back in 2019. The new device looks more-or-less identical to the first iteration, and has many of the same features as well.
Lenovo's second Smart Clock comes with the same 4 inch touchscreen display, and volume and microphone mute buttons as the first device. The chip on the inside is the same MediaTek MT8167S processor as the original device.
However, there are a few new features on the refreshed device. The new smart display has a slightly thicker base, which Lenovo explains is supposed to improve the viewing angle for users in bed. Smart Clock 2 also offers an additional wireless charging dock, and a tweaked auto-brightness feature.
What's New on Lenovo's Smart Clock 2?
New to the Smart Clock 2 is the additional wireless charging dock, which comes in a bundle with the Smart Clock 2. You can click in the Smart Clock 2 display next to the wireless charging pad on the dock, so you can charge your phone without needing a separate wireless charger.

The new wireless charger supports 10-watt wireless charging, and has a built-in magnet for iPhones with MagSafe. While it's nice to have the wireless charging pad for the Smart Clock 2, it would have been better as a default feature rather than requiring additional hardware.
Lenovo also explained it has improved the auto-brightness setting on the device. This should make it easier to check the display at night without blinding yourself. Users reported brightness issues on the first Smart Clock, so Lenovo has done well to address the issue.

Lenovo confirmed that the new device would cost $90 with the wireless charging bundle, but the availability for the Smart Clock 2 hasn't been mentioned so far. However, it's likely that the device will come out within the next few months, probably in September.
Lenovo Is Ticking Away at MWC 2021
Lenovo's refresh of it's Smart Clock device shows the company's commitment to keeping its products in the home. Smart Clock 2 isn't the biggest product refresh we've seen, but rather improves on the existing device. And, this isn't Lenovo's only product announcement at MWC 2021.
