Google Photos has greatly improved since its inception. It packs many different features, including Memories, which shows you a highlight of your recent photos, as well as old ones, in a story-like manner.
But you may have some old memories you don't want relive, especially painful ones. Google Photos offers an option to hide them. You can hide photos taken on specific dates, photos of specific people, and even pets from your Memories—for good. We’ll show you how.
How to Customize Memories in Google Photos
Painful memories are never worth revisiting, and Google Photos has an option that lets you choose which one shouldn't show up. Before we jump into how to hide specific memories, ensure that you have the latest version of Google Photos.
Also, instead of going through all this trouble, you can choose to delete specific photos in Google Photos permanently. But if you still want to hide and not delete photos, follow these steps:
- Tap your Google account’s display photo on the top right inside the Google Photos app.
- Select Photos settings from the pop-up menu, then select Memories.
- Next, tap Hide people and pets, then select any of the displayed profiles to hide them. If you choose to hide a face displayed on the Hide people and pets page, Google Photos will not display all their photos in the Memories section.
- To hide photos taken on specific dates, select Hide dates, then choose a start and end date.
- To hide all photos taken before a specific date, use that as the end date and set a very old start date, like 01/01/00.
For even more control over your Memories, you can select the types of creations that should appear. Go to Photo settings > Memories > Advanced and unselect the ones you want to hide.
Also, you can even go further to manage memories shown above your Photos by selecting Featured memories under Memories.
You can hide old memories by toggling off the Previous years slider. To hide recent pictures, disable Recent highlights, and you can also hide customized images by turning off Themed memories.
Customize Your Google Photos Memories
Google Photos’ Memories feature is handy for reviving those unforgettable old moments. But since not all are worth revisiting, you can hide them by following the procedure highlighted above.
Memories don't occupy your Google storage space, but in case you want Google Photos alternatives that offer more storage, there are plenty of choices to choose from.
