How to Submit iOS and iPadOS Beta Feedback to Apple

Before each major iOS and iPadOS release, Apple provides developers and users with several beta releases to test. Beta users provide valuable feedback, reporting bugs, testing new features, and making suggestions to the teams working on the software.

Submitting beta feedback is easy on iPhones and iPads, where you can use the Feedback Assistant app to write a report, attach screenshots, and submit device logs.

Here's how to send iOS and iPadOS beta feedback reports using the Feedback Assistant app.

Creating an Apple Feedback Report in Feedback Assistant

When you install the iOS beta, your iPhone or iPad also installs the Feedback Assistant app. While some betas are stable, many releases have annoying issues that Apple might not have caught internally. Submitting bug reports and feature requests using Feedback Assistant is easy to do and a valuable part of preparing each year’s operating systems for their full releases.

To submit iOS and iPadOS beta feedback, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Feedback Assistant app and tap New Feedback.
  2. Choose iOS & iPadOS or the category that applies to your feedback.
  3. Enter a descriptive title.
  4. Then, choose the affected area of the operating system.
  5. Select the type of feedback: Incorrect/Unexpected Behavior, Application Crash, or one of the other options.
  6. Next, fill out the Details section of the form with as many details as possible.
  7. Then, explain your feedback and, if applicable, provide instructions for reproducing the issue in the Description field.

A thorough description of a bug report includes the following details:

  • What you were doing or trying to do when the bug occurred.
  • What you expected to happen.
  • What actually happened.
  • How to reproduce the issue.

Once you’ve written the description, you’re almost done.

Adding Images and Screen Recordings to Your Apple Feedback Submission

No feedback submission is complete without one or more screenshots, screen recordings, or device logs. You can even include files and diagnostics from other devices, such as HomePods or an Apple Watch, to help demonstrate the issue you’re seeing.

To include these important files, tap Add Attachment at the bottom of the form. Choose which type of file you’d like to attach and use the sheet that appears to make your selections.

Always review screenshots and screen recordings for any sensitive details that you don't want to share.

You’ll see that another attachment—the iOS Sysdiagnose—is already included. This helps engineers understand exactly what your device was doing when a bug or behavior occurred. While you can remove it, it’s usually a valuable part of bug reports.

Submit Feedback on the Web

When you’re not on an Apple device, you can submit feedback using the Feedback Assistant website from Apple. The online portal also lets you track your feedback submission. Unfortunately, it won’t automatically include a device sysdiagnose like the native app.

How to View the Status of Feedback Reports

In the Submitted section of the Feedback app, you’ll find a list of your previous submissions. Tapping on an item shows more details, including the Feedback ID, an estimated number of Recent Similar Reports, and whether an item’s feedback status is “Open” or “Closed.”

You might also find requests for more information or follow-up details in the Requests section. Engineers might request more details about an issue or ask if a bug is still present in a newer build of the beta software. You can respond to requests by submitting additional information.

Adding Additional Information to an Existing Submission

The Feedback app enables you to update an existing submission with more information, better screenshots, or additional logs.

To add new details, follow these steps:

  1. In the Submitted section of the Feedback app, tap the submission you want to update.
  2. Then, tap the ellipsis button at the top and choose Add More Information.
  3. Write the details you’d like to add and attach any relevant files using the Add Attachment button.
  4. When you’re finished, tap the purple up arrow button to send your update.

Influencing the Future of iOS and iPadOS

Apple’s beta releases provide exciting glimpses into its major updates and enable users to submit important feedback that directly influences their devices. Submitting detailed feedback about iOS and iPadOS updates helps make these operating systems as smooth and bug-free as they can be.

At any time, if you’re experiencing too many bugs in the beta software and want to revert back to stable releases, you can easily remove the beta profile.
